Ear Procedures
Prominent ears can negatively affect self-esteem in both children and adults. With surgical correction, we can successfully reshape protruding ears and significantly contribute to greater confidence or an easier childhood. Did you know that we can also correct torn or stretched earlobes – caused by long-term wearing of heavy earrings – with a simple outpatient procedure?
Correction of prominent ears can be performed at any age. Children with protruding ears are often targets of teasing, which is why it is advisable to perform the procedure early, though not before the age of six.
The procedure is strictly self-pay, as the national health insurance no longer covers it, even for patients under 18.
For younger children, ear correction is performed under general anesthesia; in adults, it is performed as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia and takes approximately 1 hour.
The surgery reshapes the cartilage folds of the ear, improving the contour and position of the auricle. We can also reduce the size of the earlobe if needed.
Incisions are placed behind the ears, making postoperative scars virtually invisible.
Several different surgical techniques exist for ear correction. Proper preoperative consultation and examination are essential for discussing your goals and expectations and determining the most suitable technique.
Recovery is straightforward; stitches and bandages are removed after one week. For an additional month, a headband must be worn to stabilize the ears in their new position and prevent injury.
With a short local-anesthesia procedure, we can also reshape and reconstruct a torn or stretched earlobe caused by long-term earring use or recent trauma.
